L’Histoire De Babar Le Petit Elephant / Bolling
Poulenc composed L histoire de Babar in 1940. As the story goes, Poulenc was improvising at the piano when his three-year-old cousin Sophie asked him to play her book. It was the story of the inimitable little elephant Babar, written and illustrated by Jean de Brunhoff in 1930. Originally for piano and narrator, the work was orchestrated by Jean Françaix and is played here in an arrangement by David Walter. The pairing is Le Vent Tourbillon, (The Whirlwind) Claude Bolling s musical story describing the history of wind instruments. Both works are delightful and will please music fans of all ages.
